Home Automation Offers Unprecedented Lighting Control

Imagine Effortless Control of Your Natural and Electric Light

When you think of the lighting in your home, do your thoughts turn to the task lighting that makes it easier to make meals in the kitchen? Or do you visualize the sun filtering through your picture windows and the subtle shadows it evokes? The proper lighting can change the mood to warm and inviting or cold and austere. As the interior designer, Martyn Lawrence Bullard said, “Lighting is everything. It creates atmosphere, drama, and intrigue in a room.”

At Beyond Home Theater, we’re made up of top designers, engineers, and home automation experts, working together to create luxury homes in Los Angeles, CA, and the surrounding areas. Today’s technology enables lighting control with one touch, transforming our spaces for every occasion and mood.

Let’s explore the possibilities.

Harvesting Daylight

Before home automation became part of our daily lives, many of our window coverings remained lowered, protecting our fine art and furniture from the damaging effects of the sun’s UV rays. We didn’t have the time or inclination to repeatedly raise or lower our shades throughout the day to ensure the right level of sunlight filtered through.

Today, our smart homes do it for us. They offer customized motorized window shades suited perfectly for any home’s architectural style. These come in different opacities, from open sheer weaves that preserve the beautiful views of the outdoors while protecting furnishings to translucent shades that offer a soft, filtered glow and complete privacy.

For rooms that require total darkness, such as bedrooms and media rooms, we can install dual rollers. These allow two types of shades for each window—room darkening or blackout shades when it’s movie night or bedtime, and another fabric for filtered sunlight.

These window coverings are controlled with one tap on a touchscreen, remote, or keypad. We can also program them to raise and lower throughout the day. Many of our clients enjoy the beautiful sunsets coastal California offers, so we program their blinds to open fully as the sun begins to set. Others enjoy waking up to the first rays of the sun, so we’ll program their bedroom shades to slowly raise at dawn.

At the same time, your lights automatically adjust, brightening in occupied rooms where the shades have lowered in response to direct sunlight. Almost anything is possible with today’s home automation

Inviting Natural Light

Light plays a significant role in our health and well-being. Our bodies were designed to adjust to the sun’s changing light, activating certain hormones at different times of the day.

For example, when the early morning sun enters your eyes, it triggers the release of serotonin, our “happy” hormone. When darkness descends, melatonin is released, the hormone that prepares us for sleep. As electric light disrupted our natural biological clocks, sleep disorders and reduced energy resulted.

Human-centric lighting adjusts throughout the day, in alignment with the sun’s changing light. The warm, soft rays of sunrise greet you in the morning, and the soft orange-red light of a fading sun tells your body it’s time for rest.
